Bio
Keok Lim was born in Singapore and practiced dentistry for twenty years before relocating to Atlanta with her family in 2001. Always passionate about the arts, she has worked in pottery and sculpture for more than ten years at the Spruill Art Center in Dunwoody, Georgia. Her work has been exhibited internationally, and across the United States.
She has participated in solo and group exhibitions, received several awards such as Best Illustration and Best in Show, and is represented by galleries. She currently teaches ceramics at The Art Center at Johns Creek, Georgia, and her work has been featured in Pottery Making Illustrated and Studio Potter.
Artist statement
My years of teaching special needs pottery has taught me to simplify, laugh, and “just do it”.
Handbuilding is my primary method. Both my sculptural and fuctional work always has a story, a personal narrative relying on memory and personal experiences as my subject matter. I make my work and draw images intuitively and spontaneously as to capture the directness and freshness of my stories. My drawings are loose , whimsical, and colorful to capture the joy, energy, and fun that are central to my practice.
Through exploring different techniques and minimum glazing, I made my work in the respect for the material and process, in hope to create delicate and imaginative pieces.
